This is a strategy/RPG game released by Square Soft in 1988. This was about the time when Square Soft released what was to be the beginning of thier domination of the RPG genre for some years to come with the Final Fantasy series. Hanjuku Hero for the famicom is the first game in this series and sequals have been made for the SNES and Wonderswan Color systems. Probally the reason of not taking this game to English speaking countries is because of the usual choice that Japanese game companies make. That being not enough funds to port a localization. And the other being that Square Soft judging that English speaking countries would not like this type of game. Either way this game was not localized to english. And so a attempt is being made to translate this title.

Like I said this is a strategy/RPG game that sets the atmosphere in a medeval type setting. You control your main hero and the other units of your castle. Your job is to end up controlling the entire continent. In the beginning you have a choice of 3 different scenarios. The choice that you make will give you a different castle to control and some ammount of territory to keep track of. You control what you could call a all star roman/greek caste with several of the captains and leaders of the different castles being roman/greek gods and heroes. You defend and attack your enemies on a battle menu screen where you can use different tactics. One of the most outstanding ones is that you can use egg monsters. I dont know much about them as of yet. However these do seem to make a difference.

Like many games at this time, the mapper used is a MMC1 or S*ROM PCB. This is a 16K bank select game with no provisions for VROM, Since the CHR is embedded. So the total ammount of PRG used is 128K in this game. You should not have a problem finding a emulator to run this game. Most emulators that I know of implement mapper #1. Also a mapper #2 exists out there somewhere and this ROM seems to work just as well as the mapper #1 version. However the mapper #1 version will be used for this translation.

I have been sadly neglecting this game for quite a few months as the game is rather difficult to hack. As the tile graphics are embedded, some of the font sets was rather difficult to replace untill some generous soul decided to implement NES tile graphics to TMOD, thus eliminating the problem. What's done so far is some of the text is translated. Most of the text is figured out and some blocks are inserted. All the fonts have been inserted. All the 7 8x8 kanji has been identified thanks for the help from satsu. wombatman helped me to figure out how to expand some of the windows in the game. The major problem at this time being the pointers to the text and the room to optimize the text. On a plus side, there is dictionary compression already implemented in this game. The ammount of entries is no more then 20 and still is a plus. Mostly I've been trying to figure out a way of avoiding using squishy tiles. At this time I'm still considering using squishy tiles.

An NSF exists for this game that has already been ripped for quite some time.
